10 weeks and still going

I have been walking with Team in Training for 10 weeks now. I can't believe it. In such a short time, I have accomplished so much. More than I ever thought I could do, but I have so far to go.

Ten weeks ago I barely made our first 3 miles. I had never done anything like this before. When I was talking to a friend about a month before I started we both agreed that we would never make it all the way around the Rose Bowl. That was where we had our first training. It was to walk all the way around the Rose Bowl. I was so scared, but with the help of my team I made it and I wasn't the last one. Now, walking around the Rose Bowl seems like a piece of cake.

Two weeks ago I had my longest walk, 9 miles!!! I really didn't think that I could make it at all. Most of the path that we took was on sandy, rocky trails and at one point there is the steepest hill. Again, thanks to one of my coaches, I made it. I did find out that I am a little bit of a drama queen. When I got to the top of the hill, I sat down at the water station and declared, "I'm going to die!" When they offered to drive me back I told them no way, I could do it the rest of the way, the hard part was over. I did it and once again, I wasn't the last one!! I walked 9 miles. I was exhausted and sore, but I did it and I am still so proud of myself.

This last week we were to walk 10 miles. I was doing really well. I knew that I could make it. The first 7 miles were on the sandy, rocky trails and the last 3 were around the Rose Bowl (the easy part). As I neared the end of the trails I saw a friend ahead of me and thought that if I walked a little faster I could catch up with her. I did. I was so happy that after 6ish miles, I could put forth a little speed and catch up with someone. Well, it wasn't a good decision because that little burst of speed caused me to pull a muscle in my thigh and I wasn't able to complete the miles. I was so psyched to do the entire 10, but NO. I guess 7 isn't too bad, but 10 is really cool. I guess I will just have to wait awhile. I am starting to believe that I will actually be able to complete the 13.1 miles needed for my half marathon in January.
