What have I gotten myself into? I think I must be having a midlife crisis or something, but I have signed up with the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society to walk a half marathon (13.1 miles) in January.
Today was my first day of training. The first "real" training starts on Aug. 1, but this week we have to walk everyday to get ready. So, today I had to walk for 50 minutes. It sounded like a long time to me. I don't think that I've ever just walked for that long, except maybe a Disneyland. I went to the Rose Bowl to walk but I was afraid that I couldn't make it all the way around in that time. It's 3 miles around. I decided to walk 25 min. and then turn around and walk back. Then I was going to drive around and see how many miles I walked. I felt good that I made it the whole time, but I didn't remember where I was when I turned around so I couldn't find out how many miles it was. I think it may have been close to half way around. I walk 50 min. again on Thursday so I will try to see how far I can get then. I will feel good if I can walk the whole way around in 50 min. The rest of the week I will be walking only 30 minutes.
It's a good thing that the event is 6 months away because there is no way I would be able to make it now. Hopefully, it will become easier each time I walk. I was a little bored and I'm glad for my itouch so that I could listen to some good music. I wonder if I could download a book and listen to that as I walk? I am looking forward to Saturday and walking with a bunch of people. Things are always more fun when you do them with someone else.
